This video is very informative about basic massage technique, and is great for someone who knows nothing about massage. Right from the start, Kathy instructs viewers on how to hold your hands so you won't get tired, basic rubbing & kneading techniques, and what mistakes to watch out for. The latter really impressed me: As a beginner I want to make sure that I won't be hurting anyone! For example, Kathy tells viewers not to press directly on the spine, something that I probably would have done without thinking. I really liked the attitude toward safety that is prevalent throughout the video. This video would be great for a couple who wants to introduce massage into their relationship. There is nothing "kinky" about the video and all subjects are covered and treated with respect. While this is not meant as a "sensual massage" video for couples, it is definitely something that couples can watch together, and then take turns rubbing the knots out of each other's backs. Most other massage videos fall into one of two categories: 1. They are either geared toward professional massage therapists, and are too technical in nature, or 2. They are basically soft porn and lacking *real* content, such as the "Playboy Guide to Sensual Massage". Thankfully this video is neither of those things. Gruver treats the subject respectfully and she is thoughtful and knowledgeable.

Things I liked about the video:
1. Kathy Gruver is very professional and owns her own business. She is well educated, speaks clearly and with authority.
2. The viewers are told what NOT to do during a massage (very important) so they don't hurt their subjects. Believe it or not, there are a few things you should know before you jump right in and start giving backrubs.
3. The techniques are suited for a beginner, and you can start massaging someone right away.
4. This video has the right amount of Human Anatomy vocabulary without overwhelming someone who is new to massage.
5. There are many good closeups and you can see the correct hand positions.

Drawbacks:
1. The video direction was a little amateur. For example, Kathy is given a cue to talk, but she is looking off towards a different camera. I found this a little annoying, and more the fault of the video production team.
2. Kathy spends a little too much video time focusing on some guy's glutes (his bottom). Er... time to move on, mmmkay? I fast forwarded through that part.

Final word: The video is an excellent introduction to massage. I would definitely recommend this to a friend or relative. -- Great for couples who want to learn massage at home

Kathy does a great job in making this video very user friendly. It is definetly worth having and watching more than once so you feel comfortable with massage technique. -- Great instructional video

Kathy has put together the best information in this DVD, I have learned so much from the demonstrations and most importantly, I have learned that my thumbs are not really what I should be using....which is excellent news to me!!

Everyone needs this DVD in order to learn the "right" way of doing a massage, as well as the "right" way of receiving one!!

It says that this was made for the beginner, which is everyone who doesn't have this to learn with!!
